Ever wonder what the Congregational Care Committee does for you at East Brentwood Presbyterian Church? We are betting that many of you think we are only for emergent times of need when you can not cook for yourself. Well, we actually do that, but we are also here for other “things”.
Most recently, our committee decided to look at some of the “things” we can offer to our membership. We came up with these for when you are unable to do so because of illness or serious event (births, family member illness, death, etc):
**meal preparation
**light housework
**light yard work
**transportation to and from doctor(s)’ appointments
**sitting for several hours to relieve a caregiver
**run errands when you are unable
We also provide boxes at finals time for our college students, as well as our soldiers.
But we need your help. We are unable to help you if we do not know that you are in need. Please contact someone on the Congregational Care Committee listed below if you are in need of services. Many of us live far from any relative/family and need help without knowing where to turn. We are here for you!! We will keep your information or need confidential, unless you request it to be publicized in our prayer list for the bulletin. We know crises arise, but the further ahead we can plan the more we can help (i.e. an upcoming doctor’s appointment and need transportation; an upcoming surgery and you are unable to do light housekeeping; or whatever is planned).
Also, if you know of someone that needs our services, please let us know. Even if it is to check in on them to let them know someone is here for them should they need something. It is difficult to ask for help, we are all private people and guilty of that. But when life gets in the way, sometimes that helping hand is what we need to get back on our feet. Again, the calls will be confidential and the response to the need appropriate (i.e. not 20 people showing up to do light yard work or house work).
Finally, many of you responded to the Stewardship Campaign cards with positive responses to cook meals or help with transportation. We greatly appreciate that! But as you can see, we have added to what we will provide. Please prayerfully consider being on a volunteer list for one or more of the above actions listed. You can e-mail Renee at renee.lassinger@comcast.net or call her at 712-9288 to let her know on what list you would like to be. The more people that volunteer, the less likely we are to have burnout from calling the same people all of the time. We take care of our committee and volunteers too!!
Peace,
The Congregational Care Committee
