John R. Hilley
John became East Brentwood Presbyterian’s Interim Minister October 2013, returning to pastoral work after years of nonprofit leadership and owning a consulting and software business called Patmos, LLC. He brings a strong skill set and experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and stewardship. He is a preacher, a teacher and an able administrator to lead our congregation during this time of transition.
John brings life experience as a father / husband / brother / son, an understanding of what it means to run a business and a deep empathy of what many of you face in your work environment, and a desire to be more rooted in a community – all of which informs his preaching and teaching. He first came to Nashville in 1994 to serve as Senior Minister of The Downtown Presbyterian Church (1994-2000) and he has served other churches in the Middle Tennessee area, including Priest Lake Presbyterian Church. His work in the Presbyterian Church has taken him to work with churches in South Africa, New York City, New Jersey, and Iowa. About the church, John says: “God’s love is the mortar by which the community is built: our focus upon worship, education, and service is our proclamation.” My hope in joining the EBPC community is conveyed so eloquently in this passage from Jeremiah (29:11) “’For surely I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD, ‘plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.’”
John is the proud father of two college age sons and is married to Kira Florita Hilley. He enjoys kayaking, bicycling, and trail running with his friends and his Border collie mix. He holds degrees from Wake Forest University and Princeton Theological Seminary as well as undertaken post-graduate fellowship studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
Biff and Mary Fink, Directors of Music
Biff and Mary Fink have been leading worship music in Williamson County for over 25 years.
Long experience with choirs, choral composition, worship planning, piano and organ playing, handbells and youth and children’s music have prepared them well for their ministry here.
Biff grew up in Braintree, Massachusetts, just south of Boston. He graduated from Middlebury College, with a Bachelor of Music with honors from the University of Michigan School of Music, and received his Masters of Music from Boston University’s School of Fine and Applied Arts. In addition, he completed the Master Certificate in Orff Pedagogy from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Simultaneous with leading church music programs, he taught choral music and Orff classes in public and private schools in Middlebury, Baltimore and Nashville.
Currently Biff splits his time among his ministry here, choral composition and his piano students.
Mary grew up in Suffolk, Virginia, playing piano and oboe. She graduated with a BA from the College of William and Mary and received her Master’s in Hospital Administration from the Medical College of Virginia. She spent 25 years in the hospital administration field, which brought her to Middle Tennessee.
After 13 years at Williamson Medical Center, she left to offer leadership training and consulting. Currently she is transitioning to run the Scarlett Leadership Institute in Cool Springs.
Biff and Mary are excited to be leading the music ministry here, and are looking forward to growing the ministry in years ahead.
