Lenten Reflection

Lord, we know that we are never truly dead to you even when we feel afraid and alone.

You see life where the world sees brokenness and despair.

You see hope when the world wants to give up and give in to the anguish.

You see a better future when the world cannot see beyond today.

Lord, we know that you sent your Son to show us a new way to live.

We will recognize new life when the world sees the empty tomb.

“Will You Come and Follow Me” Hymn #726, Vs. 5

Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call your name.

Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.

In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show.

Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

*Hymn #796 “We Come to You for Healing, Lord” Vs. 1, 3, 5

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

We believe that you are just and merciful, O God.

So in your presence and before one another, we confess our failure to be what you created us to be.

We confess that while you created us good and beautiful and faithful, we all too easily stray from your ways.

We neglect to hear and act upon your call to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you. We are too quick to set limits on your love. We are too quick to turn to fear instead of hope, and despair instead of joy.

We confess that we rely more on ourselves than upon your Holy Spirit. We confess that we too easily participate in systems and structures of sin and injustice.

Forgive us, O God, and send us children and women and men to show us how to live more faithfully into your calling even as we pause to silently confess our own sins to you.

Time for Silent Reflection

Response “Trisagion” Ortega

Holy God.

Holy and mighty.

Holy Immortal One,

Have mercy, have mercy on us.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Prayers of the People—Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times.

Ready to connect more deeply? On Sunday, April 23rd at 9:40 a.m., the Session will be receiving individuals into membership. If you have any questions about it contact Aaron Renton at 810-599-1416 or John Hilley at 615-370-4227.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Announcements

We ask that everyone bring a side dish to share. The Morrows live at 9444 Norwood Dr. in Brentwood. We hope you will join us for this fun evening!

We are experimenting with a new orientation of the sanctuary so that we can begin making decisions about more permanent changes. This is the second of two layouts that we are trying out. We will leave it this way for the next few weeks. Your feedback about your impressions of each arrangement is appreciated, both the things you like about each configuration and what you would change. You may either fill out a form that is located in the sanctuary and return it to the wooden box, email your thoughts to Liz Beatty at aybeatty@comcast.net or let her know in person. Thank you for your assistance!

Mark your calendar for our next "Nate & Friends" concert at EBPC on April 29 at 6:30 p.m. This time, Nate will be joined by Grammy-nominated fiddler Matt Combs, who is a former member of the Grand Ole Opry, to perform a concert of songs, film scores, fiddle tunes, Bach, and a 'sneak peek' of "Appalachian Rhapsody," a new composition for fiddle, piano and full orchestra written in collaboration between Matt and Nate.

Congregational Care: We want to assist with needs that may arise, either anticipated or unexpected, among the people in our church family. Examples of supports include: assistance with transportation and home delivered meals following medical procedures, transportation to church for Sunday services, prayer requests, funeral support and in-home communion. If you have these or other needs, please feel free to contact me at: streckr1@aol.com or 615 472-1502.

Music in the Grove Sponsorship? As an attempt to offset some of the costs for our upcoming September 4th Music in the Grove Concert, we are trying to develop a group of financial sponsors for the event. In exchange for a monetary contribution, the company would be able to display their logo on marketing and communication pieces in the media and on signs, t-shirts, flyers, etc. If you have a company that would like to participate or if you would like to work with Liz Beatty's team to court sponsorship from businesses in our community, please contact her at aybeatty@comcast.net.
