EASTER

Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016

The congregation is asked to use the time of the pre-service

music as a period of silent prayer and preparation. There is childcare for young children in the nursery but there is no separate children’s worship.

We Gather to Worship God

Prelude “My Lord, What a Morning” Traditional Spiritual

*Opening Words

      Alleluia Proclamation

Response

The broken body of Jesus no longer occupies the grave, for by the power of God’s Spirit, God has brought life from death.

Alleluia!

In every word, Jesus taught that love is stronger than hate. In every deed, he demonstrated that your welcome includes everyone. In every relationship, he loved with a love that does not let go.

It is Easter because his words were true, and his deeds were holy, and his life reveals your heart, O God. Alleluia!

The broken body of Jesus no longer occupies the grave.

Your love not only raises Jesus from the dead, but also calls us by name, and grants death no power to pull us from you. Alleluia!

*Hymn 232 “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”

Easter Reflection Edwin Linzie, Joy and Travis Centers

Life bursts forth like the lilies of the field. Alleluia, He is risen!  Christ has triumphed over the sting of death!

“Day of Delight & Beauty Unbounded”       Hymn #242, Vs. 1

Day of delight and beauty unbounded,

tell the news, the gospel spread!

Day of all wonder, day of all splendor,

praise Christ risen from the dead!

Sing of the sun from darkness appearing;

sing of the seed from barren earth greening;

sing of creation, alleluia!

Sing of the stream from Jesus’ side flowing;

sing of the saints in water made holy;

sing of salvation, alleluia!

*Passing of the Peace

The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you!

*Gloria Patri #581

 Response #647

Give thanks with a grateful heart;

Give thanks to the Holy One;

Give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son.

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”;

Let the poor say, “We are rich

because of what the Lord has done for us!”

Give thanks. Give thanks

We Respond to God’s Love

*Affirmation of Faith

This is the good news which we have received,

in which we stand,

and by which we are saved,

if we hold it fast:

that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

that he was buried,

that he was raised on the third day,

and that he appeared first to the women,

then to Peter, and to the Twelve,

and then to many faithful witnesses.

We believe that Jesus is the Christ,

the Son of the living God.

Jesus Christ is the first and the last,

the beginning and the end;

He is our Lord and our God. Amen.

 Invitation to the Lord’s Table

*Prayer of Great Thanksgiving

The God of every morning be with you.
And also with you.
People of Easter morning, lift up your hearts!
We lift them to the One who has raised Jesus from the grave.
People of Easter's joy, give thanks to the One who raises us to new life.
We sing our Alleluias to the God of everlasting love…

Therefore, we join our voices this morning
with those who stood at the empty tomb,
as well as those of every time and place,
singing our Easter joy to you:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Sharing of the Bread and Cup

Music During Communion

Prayer After Communion (concluding with the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.
