We Gather to Worship God

   Welcome & Announcements

Prelude “Variations on the Doxology” arr. Maddux

*Call to Worship

In every season,

in every circumstance,

worship is what we do:

when we are filled with joy

when we are anxious about the future when we need a friend

when we are full of good news

when we need to hear good news.

We were made to worship God,

and God will always find us here.

*Opening Prayer

*Hymn #20 “All Things Bright & Beautiful”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Forgive us, O God,

when our hands are too greedy,

when our hearts are too hard,

when our motivations are too selfish.

Forgive us when our faith is too fragile,

when our imaginations are too weak,

when our judgement is too harsh.

Forgive us, O God,

when we forget what grace looks like.

Time for Silent Reflection

Response “Spirit of the Living God” Hymn #288

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Melt me; mold me; fill me; use me.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Passing of the Peace

As God through Jesus has recognized and forgiven each of us, let us now ourselves recognize and forgive each other by sharing God’s peace with one another. The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

*Gloria Patri #581

Time with the Children

Time of Reflection

We Respond to God’s Love

Prayers of the People–Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Hymn #8 “Eternal Father, Strong to Save”

*Affirmation of Faith—Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Offering

Offertory “Beneath the Cross of Jesus” arr. Harlan

praise God, all creatures here below;

praise God above, ye heavenly host;

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Participants In Today’s Service: Pastor: John Hilley; Guest Accompanist: Laura Kreiselmaier; Liturgist: Rob Montgomery.

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times. Interested in joining East Brentwood? Speak to John Hilley or Dave Ford.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Announcements

The Worship Team will have "Summer Travel Worship Bags" available starting this Sunday for each family to take home with them.  As you vacation across the country, the world or right here in your own backyard, you can still keep faith formation going throughout the months to come.  One of the items included in the bag is "Flat Jesus."  He is meant to be decorated and then to accompany you wherever you and your family go.  Take pictures, write a blog, etc. of how you are bringing Jesus to the communities outside the walls of EBPC.  Then upload them to Doug in the office (ebpcoffice@comcast.net) to be included in our weekly e-blast or the EBPC Facebook page with a short description so that we can all have a glimpse of the adventures of your own "Flat Jesus."

EBPC is partnering with First Presbyterian Church of Franklin for Vacation Bible School this summer. It will run Monday, June 20th until Thursday, June 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to noon. There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee per child. It is for children ages 4 (by 8/15/2016) to 6th grade. For more information, view a flyer for the event by clicking here (or visiting our website www.eastbrentwoodpc.com/) or visit their website at http://www.fpcfranklin.org/#/children-youth/vacation-bible-school.

Flowers & Fellowship Food Sign-up: Please consider signing up for flowers, fellowship food, or both in the coming months. Please sign up from our website or E-newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact Doug in the church office at ebpcoffice@comcast.net.

We are continuing to expand our Worship Teams to cover summer vacations and participants rotating off teams. If you would like to train to be an opener, closer, greeter/usher, Communion Server, acolyte or liturgist or you would like to help in a supporting role with the Sanctuary Guild and Worship Planning Team, please contact the Worship Planning Team Moderator Liz Beatty at aybeatty@comcast.net. Thank you to each person who has stepped up already to help!
