We Gather to Worship God

   Welcome & Announcements

   Prelude          “Victory Chant”  McClurkin

Lyrics © Universal Music Publishing Group

*A Call to Worship

Leader: Here in this place,

light streams in and music rings out.

People: Here in this place, friends are greeted and strangers are welcomed.

L: Here among these people, hands are held and concerns are shared.

P: Here among these people, water is poured and promises are made.

L: Here in this moment, grace is offered and hope is real.

P: Here in this moment, God is among us and we are at peace.

*Hymn #260 “Alleluia, Sing to Jesus”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Most merciful God, the times you have welcomed us in grace

number more than the stars of heaven.

We wish to offer you lives that are holy, righteous and pure;

but once again we must confess:

While we have loved much, we have also given into fear.

While we have offered much, we have also given into greed.

While we have served, we have also been self serving.

While we have lifted up, we have also oppressed.

For everything in us that glorifies you, we give you thanks. For all in us that offends you, we repent.

We pray once again for your gracious forgiveness, and we trust that our desire to please you does, indeed, please you.

Time for silent reflection

Response “Mothering God, You Gave Me Birth” Hymn #7

Mothering God, you gave me birth

in the bright morning of this world.

Creator, source of every breath,

you are my rain, my wind, my sun.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Passing of the Peace

As God through Jesus has recognized and forgiven each of us, let us now ourselves recognize and forgive each other by sharing God’s peace with one another. The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

We Respond to God’s Love

*Affirmation of Faith—Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Children’s Worship: children’s worship helps children ages 3 through 2nd grade explore Bible units through hands-on, age appropriate, experiential activities that are designed to engage them while also instilling faith formation. We meet upstairs every Sunday following the Time with Children. Today’s story is “Wait For It!” - Acts 1:6-14 (Help children hear Jesus' last words to the disciples and plan ways they can carry the good news of God's love to the ends of the earth.) Next week’s story is The Spirit Unleashed - Acts 2:1-13 (Help children explore and celebrate the life-giving movement of the Holy Spirit in the world.)

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times. Interested in joining East Brentwood? Speak to John Hilley or Dave Ford.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.
