*Call to Worship Isaiah 43:18-21

Love the Lord your God,

with all your heart, and with all your soul,

and with all your strength, and with all your mind!

Love your neighbor as yourself,

with all your heart, and with all your soul,

and with all your strength, and with all your mind!

Do this and you will live!

Let us worship God!

*Hymn #63 “The Lord is God”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession & Assurance of God's Grace

Have mercy on me, O God.

I come to you as a person hungry for good news.

I seek your truth, and often deceive others and myself.

I beg for forgiveness, and still repeat my errors.

I experience your grace, then act defeated.

I long for a heart to love you, and turn away from the ways you love me.

Forgive me for the smallness of my faith, and for the many ways I fall short.

Jesus Christ, fully divine, is the way of hope and the truth of God.

Jesus Christ, fully human, is the life of love and the mercy of God.

God’s humanity is God’s divinity.

We declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

Thanks be to God.

Have mercy on us, O God.

We come to you as people hungry for good news.

We seek your truth, and often deceive others and ourselves.

We beg for forgiveness, and still repeat our errors.

We experience your grace, then act defeated.

We long for a heart to love you, and turn away from the ways you love us.

Forgive us for the smallness of our faith, and for the many ways we fall short.

Jesus Christ, fully divine, is the way of hope and the truth of God.

Jesus Christ, fully human, is the life of love and the mercy of God.

God’s humanity is God’s divinity.

I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

Thanks be to God. Amen.

Time of Silent Reflection

Response “I Will Come to You”, Verse 4 Hymn #177

“I am the Word that leads all to freedom;

I am the peace the world cannot give.

I will call your name, embracing all your pain.

Stand up, now walk and live!

Don’t be afraid, I am with you.

I have called you each by name.

Come and follow me, I will bring you home;

I love you and you are mine.”

*Passing of the Peace

The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

About Today’s Service & Activities

Participants In Today’s Service: Pastor: John Hilley; Director of Music: Nate Strasser; Liturgist: Aaron Renton; Musicians: Joe Ennis, Joe Schneider, the Praise Band.

To Our Members and Guests: Please sign our friendship pad.

This week Katherine Smith is preaching because John is away. Katherine currently serves as Assistant Dean for Admissions, Vocation, and Stewardship at Vanderbilt Divinity School.  A native of Nashville who grew up attending Westminster Presbyterian Church, Katherine graduated with an A.B. in English Literature from Princeton University and a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School. An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Katherine is happily living out her call to do vocational discernment with those exploring theological education and Christian ministry. She is married to Bart Smith, Director of Development for Vanderbilt Athletics. They have two children, Eleanor (4) and Evelyn (2).

Children’s Worship: Children’s worship helps children ages 3 through 2nd grade explore Bible units through hands-on, age appropriate, experiential activities that are designed to engage them while also instilling faith formation. We meet upstairs every Sunday following the Time with Children. Today’s story is Joseph in the Well - Genesis 37:12-36; 39:1-2 (Help children recognize the kinds of choices that separate people from God and one another.) Next week’s story is: Joseph Interprets Dreams - Genesis 41:1-57 (Help children use their gifts in grateful response to God's grace.)

Upwards is a learning experience for 3rd through 5th graders that alternates weekly between meeting as a group and a clipboard activity. Growing in Grace and Gratitude is this year’s theme. This week will be a group activity upstairs. If you have any questions, ask Kelly McConnell at ebpcyouth@comcast.net.

Flowers are provided this morning by

Alison & Jamie Hopkins

in celebration of their 23rd wedding anniversary!

 Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times. Interested in joining East Brentwood? Speak to John Hilley or Ashley Purcell.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate

service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Announcements

Giving to the church through your will or trust is the most common way to continue your support beyond your lifetime. When your estate is prepared, consider a gift to the church. For more information contact Amy Gallager at amygeoff@gmail.com or (615) 496-4962.

Kids' Music and Drama Club is off and running with about 20 kids atpractice. It is for children 3 years thru 5th grade and occurs on Wednesday nights from 6:30-7 pm. A new session for middle & high schoolers was added from 6:00-6:30. EBPC Music Director Nate Strasser teaches children about music in a fun and engaging way and is preparing them for the church Christmas pageant! Contact: Nate Strasser, Music Director at EBPC: ebpcmusic@comcast.net.

Red Cross Blood Drive: The blood drive is scheduled for Sunday, December 20th, at the church from 8:30 – 12:30. Our goal is to have 30 donors. So far, we have eight. As the holiday season approaches, there will, unfortunately, be an increase in the need for blood. Please consider giving. Appointment sheets will be in the narthex every Sunday starting November 1st. More details to follow. Contact: Richard White.

Tis the Season to Give Thanks & Help Others

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Thank you to everyone who donated sides and "fixins" and to those who signed up to provide a turkey to the College Grove Food Closet! It is a real joy to give those who are not as fortunate as us. As a church, we committed to providing 50 Thanksgiving dinners to those in need, and we still have some work to do. We've counted up all the items donated thus far, and for EBPC to read our goal of providing the 50 dinners, here's what we need: As of Monday morning this week, we need 11 additional turkeys. These can be in the 10-12 pound range and can be delivered to the church on Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please sign up in the Gathering Area with your name, phone number and number of turkeys you will be providing. For the rest of the meal, we need: 27 cans of green beans, 40 sweet potatoes, 25 cans of cranberry sauce, 38 pumpkin or other pie filling, 30 gravy, 27 cream of mushroom soup, 30 fried onions, 28 stuffing mix and 35 baking mix (Bisquick type). Remember if you would like to support this project financially but do not have time to complete the shopping, we are happy to help you. Please send in cash or write a check to EBPC and put College Grove Thanksgiving in the memo line, and we will take care of the rest. Thank your for your continued support of this outreach program and for making this a special Thanksgiving for someone in need!
